Peterborough Libraries hold a range of health information from alternative medicine, diagnosis and self help books to literature for medical professionals. Take a browse through the different health categories or pop into your local library and speak to a member of staff who will happy to help you.
Shelf Help: Reading Well for young people is a reading list of 35 books selected by mental health experts and young people.
It provides 13-18 year-olds with information, support and advice on a wide-range of mental health issues.
The books will be available for anyone to borrow for free from larger Peterborough libraries.

Reading Well Mood-boosting Books scheme is a national promotion of uplifting titles, including novels, poetry and non-fiction.
The books are recommended by readers and reading groups around the country.
The new list of 20 Reading Well Mood-boosting Books has been released in January 2016 and can be downloaded from the bottom of this page.
The Reading Well Books on Prescription for Dementia initiative supports people with dementia, their carers and families.
Under the new scheme, health professionals will be able to recommend helpful reading to support people with dementia and their carers. People can also self-refer using the booklist to borrow titles for free from their local library.
The set of 25 books have been recommended by health experts as well as people with lived experience. Copies of these books are available in larger Peterborough libraries (Central, Bretton, Orton and Werrington) as well as the Dementia Resource Centre. They will be free to borrow.

Reading Well Books on Prescription – GPs and other health professionals can recommend specific books to people, to help them with their health condition. All the books have been carefully chosen by medical consultants.
Your GP will give you a prescription form for a recommended book, which you can get from your local library for free.
Conditions covered include mainly mild to moderate mental health problems. The book list can be downloaded at the bottom of this web page.

You can also borrow recommended Mood-Boosting Books- books that people found mood-boosting during or after cancer treatment.
