History Of The Museum
Peterborough Museum is situated on Priestgate in the City Centre. This street dates back to the twelfth century when the current town plan was set down by the monks of Peterborough Abbey.
Permanent Exhibitions
Our £3.2 million refurbishment has allowed us to transform many of our displays and make them much more interactive and family friendly. The changes have allowed us to bring out many more items from the collection not previously on display – some 20% more than before!

The music you danced to? The smell of carbolic soap?
Or high tea on a Sunday afternoon?
Borrow a reminiscence box to bring back old times.
Please note that these boxes are not suitable for school use.
Museum Spooky Stuff
Peterborough Museum doesn’t just tell the fascinating story of the city’s history, it is also the city’s most haunted building.
In fact, there are no less than eight different ghosts said to haunt the building’s many rooms and corridors.
