Vivacity's brand new children's Book Bus, will be on the road visiting primary schools around Peterborough from March 2018.
Introduction to the Library Service
We offer a free library introduction session suitable for all age groups. Introduce your students to their local library, help them learn how to become members and what they can do in the library. Engaging with the library service encourages your students to read for pleasure outside of school and to use the library with their families.
The visits include activities to further students' knowledge about the library, including a story where age-appropriate, and lots of time for children to explore the library.
Themed Visits
If you would like your class visit to be themed to a particular subject or topic, this can be provided at a charge of £1 per child. Themed visits include activities using the library materials based around your chosen topic.
Our libraries are listed below - please contact the Reader Development team on 01733 864773 or by emailing reading@vivacity-peterborough.com to arrange a visit or to discuss your requirements.
The Boys Into Books scheme supports your work encouraging your children to read more for pleasure.
Contact us at reader.services@vivacity-peterborough.com for further information or to sign up for the scheme.
There are no lower or upper limits to how many books you can borrow from us at a time.
Schools typically ask for loan collections of 20-50 books for either a half term or term at a time.
The stock covers KS1 – KS3 pupils and is mostly fiction.
The titles in the collection cover a range of reading abilities.
We can either choose titles for you, or you are more than welcome to come in and select your own stock.
On occasion we offer author events to schools, where children are invited to come along to a library and meet an author.
The usual format is an author talk or presentation about their work, question and answer session, and an opportunity for the children to purchase their own copies of the book and have it signed.
Examples of past events include: John Connolly, Sophie McKenzie, Jeremy Strong, Kjartan Poskitt, the ‘Two Steves’ and Clementine Beauvais.
To keep up to date with any author visits, please sign up to the Vivacity schools newsletter.
Peterborough Libraries offer a special FREE nursery, playgroup and registered childminder service.
A wide range of board books and picture books are available to be borrowed on a termly basis, for children to use in your setting. Most settings borrow a box of about 30 items and change them each term.
We will make the selection for you, unless you prefer to choose your own titles which you are very welcome to do.
For more information, and to arrange to borrow a book box, please email the Central Library.
All libraries have been risk assessed, copies of these documents can be seen on request.
If you would prefer to carry out your own risk assessment, please let us know.
